🫢 THE BORING BUT IMPORTANT STUFF

The rules, without the weirdness.

We want Acting Grind to feel like a safe, fun place for actors to find people, information, opportunities and community. That only works if everyone understands the basic rules β€” what we do with your information, what happens when you submit content, and how we're asking people to treat each other.

First: this page isn't pretending to be a lawyer.

This page is written in plain English so people can actually understand how Acting Grind is intended to work. Before launch, the final Privacy Policy, Terms of Use, consent language and any content-licensing terms should be reviewed and adapted to the laws that apply to the business and its users.

01 β€” PRIVACY

Your information is yours.

Acting Grind may need some information to create accounts, operate the community, display actor profiles, process submissions and communicate with you. We don't want you wondering what happens to that information.

What information might we collect?

Depending on how you use the platform, this could include:

  • Your name or display name.
  • Email address and account information.
  • Information you choose to put on your actor profile.
  • Content, messages or submissions you send us.
  • Basic technical information needed to operate the website.
  • Information you voluntarily provide when contacting us.

What do we use it for?

  • To operate your account.
  • To provide community and platform features.
  • To publish content you have chosen to submit.
  • To respond to messages and support requests.
  • To improve the platform.
  • To keep the community safe.
  • To comply with applicable legal obligations.

What we don't want

Please don't send us passwords, financial information, government identification or other highly sensitive personal information unless the platform specifically asks for it through an appropriate secure process.

02 β€” ACCOUNTS

Your account is your space.

If Acting Grind allows you to create an account or actor profile, you're responsible for providing information that is reasonably accurate and for keeping your login information secure.

Don't pretend to be someone else.

Please don't create fake profiles pretending to be another actor, casting professional, company or public figure.

You can change your mind.

Where account functionality allows it, you should be able to update your information or request deletion of your account. Some information may need to be retained where legally required or reasonably necessary for legitimate operational purposes.

03 β€” TERMS

The basic deal.

By using Acting Grind, you agree to use the platform responsibly and not to misuse it. That sounds obvious. It is, but it's worth saying.

You agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten or target other users.
  • Impersonate other people.
  • Upload content you don't have permission to share.
  • Use the platform for scams or fraudulent activity.
  • Attempt to compromise the security of the website.
  • Spam the community.
  • Use the platform to distribute malicious software.
  • Post illegal or seriously harmful content.

Acting Grind isn't your agent.

Acting Grind is a platform and community. Unless a separate written agreement says otherwise, using Acting Grind does not create an agent-client relationship, employment relationship or representation agreement.

Information isn't a guarantee.

Articles, tutorials, advice, interviews, community posts and other information on Acting Grind are provided for informational and educational purposes. You are responsible for deciding what advice is appropriate for your own career and circumstances.

04 β€” SUBMISSIONS

Send us your grind.

One of the biggest parts of Acting Grind is the ability for actors and creators to continuously submit content. That means we need to be clear about what happens when you press β€œsubmit.”

Only send us things you're allowed to send.

Don't submit somebody else's private footage, copyrighted material you don't have permission to use, confidential audition material or anything else you don't have the right to share.

Submitting doesn't guarantee publication.

We may receive more submissions than we can publish. A submission can be declined, edited, delayed or removed.

What happens to submitted content?

The exact rights granted to Acting Grind should be clearly explained in the submission form before you submit. Depending on the submission type, this may include permission to publish your material on the website, social media, YouTube or other Acting Grind channels.

We want this permission to be clear before you submit β€” not something hidden afterwards.

05 β€” YOUR CONTENT

You made it. It's yours.

Unless a separate agreement says otherwise, you generally remain the owner of content you create and submit. Giving Acting Grind permission to use a submission does not automatically mean Acting Grind owns the underlying work.

But we need permission to publish it.

If you send us a video and ask us to feature it, we need the appropriate permission to actually display, edit, reproduce or share it. The submission process should tell you what you are agreeing to.

Other people may appear in your content.

Please make sure you have appropriate permission before submitting footage of other people, particularly private or sensitive footage.

Third-party music and footage

Be especially careful with copyrighted music, film clips, television footage, photographs and other material you don't own. Platforms such as YouTube and Instagram have their own copyright systems too.

06 β€” COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

Don't be a dick.

That's basically the rule. But because β€œbe decent” can mean different things to different people, here's what we actually mean.

🫢

Be kind.

People are putting themselves out there. Treat that vulnerability with some care.

🚫

No harassment.

No bullying, threats, targeted abuse or repeated unwanted contact.

🀝

Respect different careers.

One actor's path isn't automatically better than another's.

🧠

Give advice. Don't dictate.

Share what worked for you without pretending your experience is universal.

Discrimination isn't welcome here.

We don't want racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or other forms of targeted discrimination in the community.

Don't exploit vulnerable actors.

The acting industry already has power imbalances. Do not use Acting Grind to manipulate, exploit, pressure or take advantage of people looking for work.

07 β€” MODERATION

Sometimes we have to step in.

We want the community to feel open. But open doesn't mean anything goes.

What might happen?

Depending on the situation, Acting Grind may remove content, restrict an account, temporarily suspend an account or permanently remove an account from the platform.

We'll aim to be reasonable.

Moderation decisions should be based on the platform's rules, the context of the situation and the safety of the community.

Something feels wrong?

Use the report function where available or contact us directly. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency services rather than relying on Acting Grind.

08 β€” OPPORTUNITIES

Not every casting call is what it says.

Acting Grind may feature casting calls, jobs, projects, workshops and other opportunities. We want to make discovering opportunities easier. We also don't want actors getting scammed.

🚩 Things to watch for

  • Pressure to pay money immediately.
  • Requests for unusual financial information.
  • Promises of guaranteed fame or employment.
  • Requests for inappropriate private material.
  • Unclear project details or identities.
  • Pressure to move conversations somewhere suspicious.
  • Anything that makes you think, β€œWait... what?”

Do your own checking.

Even when an opportunity appears on Acting Grind, you should independently evaluate the production, casting contact, company and terms before participating.

09 β€” PLATFORM CONTENT

Some things here are ours.

Acting Grind's branding, original graphics, original videos, written material, website design and other original platform material may be protected by intellectual property rights. Please don't copy, scrape, redistribute or commercially exploit those materials without permission.

Community content is different.

Content submitted by users remains subject to the rights and permissions described in the relevant submission process. Don't assume that because something appears on Acting Grind, you automatically have permission to reuse it elsewhere.

10 β€” THINGS CHANGE

We're going to keep evolving.

Acting Grind is intended to grow. That means features, community rules, privacy practices and these terms may change over time.

When changes are important, we should make reasonable efforts to communicate them appropriately. The current version of the relevant policy will apply once it becomes effective.
